"BURNOUT DYNASTY"
Some music videos aim to support a song; others aim to build a universe. This project—crafted through a collaboration of nearly fifty creatives—belongs firmly in the latter category. Rooted in cyberpunk aesthetics, Asia-futurist worldbuilding, and deeply personal sonic influences, the video grew from a single conceptual spark into an immersive visual world over the course of ninety intense production days.
Below, artist Jasmine Sokko walks us through the process—from assembling the team to navigating intricate VFX demands, to the symbolic moment that became the emotional anchor of the entire piece.
“The video came together through a team of about fifty people across pre- and post-production, each one carrying a piece of the world we were trying to build. But at the core of it all was the shared world-building between me, the director, and the post-production team. That collaboration is what shaped the universe the video breathes in.”
Despite the large team, the creative heartbeat of the project was a small collaborative triangle—artist, director, and post-production—each pushing the other deeper into the world they were inventing.
“It took around ninety days from start to finish. I began with a sonic palette for the album—rooted in my love for cyberpunk and Asia-futurism, which is inspired by my childhood in Asia—which the director immediately connected with. From there, he shaped the visual DNA, and the universe grew layer by layer, like a world revealing itself.”
What began as a sonic blueprint became a full-fledged visual cosmos. Director Jyun Chang responded to the initial soundscape with a visual language that carried both futuristic energy and cultural memory.
“A big part of the challenge was perfecting the VFX, especially the final explosion sequences. The robotic caricature was also incredibly intricate; nailing the lighting took several rounds. And the levitation sequences required a lot of experimentation to make the movement feel effortless. But every adjustment felt like another brushstroke in the painting, so it was all worth it.”
VFX took center stage in the production hurdles. Explosions, robotic characters, and levitation shots required intense iterative work—balancing realism, stylization, and the emotional tone of the world.
“My favourite moment is the scene where the dragon coils around me while I’m suspended mid-air. There’s a sense of rebirth and transcendence in that moment—exactly the feeling that anchors this new sonic universe.”
This scene—featuring a coiling dragon—became symbolic of transformation and the emotional metamorphosis that underpins the album and the video alike.
“There isn’t a single message I’m trying to push. It’s more like—take whatever finds you. If something resonates, let it; if it passes by, so be it. But for anyone who loves cyberpunk or Asia-futurist worlds, there are pieces of that spirit woven throughout. May this universe find its way to the people who are ready to receive it.”
Rather than presenting a direct narrative thesis, the video opens itself to interpretation—an invitation to explore the world’s textures, motifs, and emotional rhythms.
